Refreshing
Nia is a refreshing journey into a world where fairy tales come to life. This unique story-line takes you back in time to a place where loyalty and promises mean something real. Although the setting is old world, the human feelings and emotions breathe off of the pages onto the reader. If you're looking for action and adventure this is the book for you! A must read!

Great book!
This was a great book! It was an easy read because you were drawn into Nia's life and her feelings. The only problem is that I have to wait for the next book to come out.

A Flippin Fabulous - A Reader's Record Review
Slightly reluctant to take on this book for review, I gave one glance to the synopsis and was sold. I had to know what happened, what happened to the soldier, what his promise meant, and who Nia was.In a historical setting, we share Princess Nia's journey as she discovers her worth to others, her self-worth, love, loyalty, and what it means to be a Princess in a time which male heirs are more valuable and accepted by their kingdoms.Princess Nia is an extremely likable character. Even when others around her do her wrong she is willing to over look their lack of loyalty or compassion and still give hers in return. Despite the fact Princess Nia wants nothing to do with the throne and those around her want her nowhere near it, Princess Nia's smarts and level head becomes apparent and eventually lead to the domino effect of bad events that follow her, her love and fiance, Andras, and her sworn soldier Garreth.Andras and Garreth both seems to have a similar goal at hand during Nia, to protect Princess Nia from any danger. Too bad, despite both being likable characters and both seeming to break the molds in some ways for men of their time, one of them fails at their duties and leads to the downfall of Nia and the one who would stand faithfully by her side at the throne, in poverty, in any kingdom she may take shelter in.Nia was a book of mystery, kingdom politics with an underlying tone of romance. Each character did grow, whether it was a personal growth or one in which we were shown the true nature of their inner person. All characters, main or secondary, built the story into what it was, even those I could not stand.Nia was simply written though pretty complete. It had a way of being vague enough to let my mind roam free, building the world and characters around me, and giving me enough that I knew what the product of my imagination was supposed to be. I did find my ability to picture Nia herself a little hard but I was easily lost in the story and almost felt like I was watching the story unfold through her eyes, so it didn't really bother me beyond the beginning when the foundation was still being laid. With two more books slated to be in Princess Nia's story, I will be excited when I can get a copy of number two and hope the romance is a little more thick. I'd like to tell you who I'm wondering about but unfortunately that would give the end of the story away and that would completely ruin the story should you read it.I recommend Nia to those who enjoy their historical young adult fiction with a side of romance.

Can't wait for more!
Nia has struggled with the fact that she is a princess and not taken seriously as an acceptable choice to become heir to the throne of Brychan. She is just a "woman" after all. To keep herself busy, she has taken on the roll of "healer" (following in her Mother's footsteps) & is preparing to marry her love Andras. When her father - a King who loves war - accepts a "gift" on her behalf, Nia's world is turned around. Her "gift", and now constant guard, Garreth helps her discover friendship, a sense of worth and responsibility to learn more about her kingdom and herself. Your heart can't help but go out to her. It's a roller coaster of emotions and you won't want to put it down!

Great characterizations
Nia is the fourth child, and only daughter, of the King of Brychan. Due to unfortunate circumstances, she is the only heir to the throne. No one believes she should be queen, not her, her father, or the kingdom. When the son of a conquered king swears an oath to be her protector and guard for the rest of his life, her life becomes even more complicated.Nia was an amazingly complicated and real character. She suffers tremendous self doubt about her worth, in part because she has always been treated as not good enough. Her thoughts clearly reveal the depth of her doubts and make for an instantly sympathic heroine. I found myself rooting again and again for her to see how great she really was.Garreth was also an amazing character. I'd love to have a companion like that. His personality is that of an eternal good guy. He is strong and stubborn and very honorable. This is another character that is easy to root for.The one person that didn't ring true was Andras, Nia's finance. I fould him to be a bit two-dimensional and flat, but that may due to Nia's hero worship of him. While there is plenty of action, this is a character driven story about Nia and Garreth. There isn't really a romantic element, although I kept hoping there would be.The ending came at the right time. There were plenty of details left unresolved, and I can only hope that there is a sequel coming. According to the author's website there will be a sequel, and I can't wait for it to be available.
