Works well, finish doesn't hold up in sunlight
I have two of these locks on my house. They both work well, and integrate well with my zwave controller. But one thing I wanted to mention is that the Venetian Bronze finish doesn't seem to deal with direct sunlight well. The door which is in a shaded porch has held up just fine, but the door which gets direct California sunlight every day has had a bunch of the finish flake off in the 2 years since we installed it. See the photo -- and compare it to the door handle (by another manufacturer) which was installed at the same time and has held up just fine.

A good lock for those who don't want to leave a key sitting around, but with some minor issues.
This lock is perfect for someone who needs to let another person into their house, but doesn't want to leave a key hidden or can't rush home to meet them. The installation is a little more complicated than a traditional lock, but any person with a relative amount of handiness can do it. The reason it is not a five star are two-fold. First, the first lock I received was defective. I tried for half an hour to get the lock to connect with the SmartThings station, and nothing worked. Don't call Kwikset for help. They literally told me the batteries I had must be bad. If this happens to you make sure you reach out to Amazon. They sent me a new one and I received the replacement the next day from Amazon, and the second worked perfectly, and I used the same batteries. The real issue though is the app that controls it, the SmartThings app, does not allow you to set codes on the app. You can lock and unlock the door, but you can't add or delete codes, or set time limits for codes to expire. This would make it a lot more handy if we can do all of that.

Have had great results with rechargeable cells
I purchased this on February 9, 2017 and have had great success with it. At first it was a little difficult to pair with my SmartThings hub but I managed to get it paired after following the instructions verbatim (this took the longest time in the install process). This z-wave door lock replaced my older unit; non z-wave (Kwikset 99130-003 SmartCode 913) and the one it replaced moved to the inner garage entryway. Both this 914 and 913 model have had a lot of reviews that complain about how long the battery lasts. I need to inform those that the right battery is key and if you're going to use rechargeable cells, then get the eneloop brand! Since installing this on Feb 9th, I recently had to replace the rechargeable eneloops on May 12, 2017. The batteries kept it functioning for over 3 months! Keep in mind this is my front door which is used several times per day - average use. I replaced the eneloops with some rechargeable Li-po batteries to test out.# Pros- Once paired with SmartThings hub it works great. Not much lag at all, it unlocks and locks.- Easy to install (may not be for others) but Reading The Fine Manual should provide successful installs as a DIYer.- Batteries last over 3 months on rechargeables - Eneloops, the real deal.# Cons- Had some difficulties while pairing the device with my SmartThings hub. The unit must be close to the hub to pair prior to mounting it to the door. This is more of an error on my part since I expected the lock to pair with my hub being a few dozen ft away.# Other Notes- The 914 keypad I received is smaller than the older 913. I kept the keypad from the 913 on the front door hooked up to the new 914 inner part. Works great and I didn't have to repaint the door. It worked out well since the smaller keypad from the 914 fit better on the doorway connecting the interior garage door.# RecommendationsIf you want to use rechargeable cells, get the eneloop brand. If you live in a region that is cold, get rechargeable Li-po cells since they hold up better in colder temperatures. The Li-po cells I put in seem to perform a lot better than the eneloops since the voltage is constant. The locking and unlocking seems quicker and has more power to perform those tasks. I ordered the Li-po cells on eBay. Search for "Kentli 1.5V 3000mWh AA Lithium Li-po" and those are the ones I currently have installed and will be updating this review while I gain more experience with them.

How the other half lives....
Once you've had one programmed into your network, you won't know how you lived with out it. Triggers with schedules. arm and disarmed out puts. No more fussing with keys or a dark door step since the keypad lights up.I will say that I added it to my network and the battery icon on the app went to red in the first week. I also had issues with it losing it's connection with my controller. I called my alarm company and he told me that there are steps that are necessary when adding it to your controller that Kwikset doesn't tell you about. The keypad establishes an ecrypted connection with your controller. So you must...1) Keep it 12 inches or closer to your Z-Wave controller when adding it to the network. 2) Even after it is detected by your controller, leave it there for another 60 seconds while the encryption process completes. it won't give you any notification that the encrytion is complete. Just leave it there for 60 seconds before proceeding to any changes.I deleted it from my network and re-added it using these steps and no more connection issues and the battery was reporting correctly as full.

Happy with It.
Had it long enough to go through batteries twice.I originally had it locking (via Smartthings) after anyone opened it and such, but wound up just using the feature to unlock when I come home.So far I really like it, much more than the previous one I had that wasnt SmartThings compatible.I find this one locks/unlocks much smoother and overall seems strong. The numbers are not yet wearing out and so far seem like new.I wish it was easier to access the battery drawer instead of undoing screws, but that is a small complaint.

Convenient, works as announced but fragile and therefore expensive.
This lock was bought to replace an identical product installed 3 years ago by the security company. The old one broke when one person opened it with the code from one side and another one did the same with the handle on the other side. It should not happen and the cost of $300 (with taxes) makes it an expensive lock at a cost of $100/year!The web page states "Easily installs in minutes with just a screwdriver". It is literally true, but, 3 years ago, the professional installer needed more than two hours to get it working right. For the replacement, I am not a professional and I did not know the product (probably like all Amazon customers) but everything was mostly ready, I needed more than an hour: 80 minutes. So yes, it installs in minutes, it is always true :-) (and the manual seems incorrect for the programming part, I did not get the green flashing announced). The box states "lifetime warranty for the mechanical part", so next time I might be able to use it but there is probably some small prints which will apply. Now this is a very convenient product, I would find difficult to go back to a traditional lock, this is why I replaced it!

Excellent..
Excellent.....easy to install....the setup of right and left side door opening is weird in my mind but necessary sine this is the first lock I've run across that requires it.....one downfall is the standard AA batteries drain REAL quick....using the higher capacity camera AA batteris now....hopefully they will last longer than 30-60 days.

Can't install because part needed is considered optional and not included
Turns out that as I tried to install I discovered that my door required the drive-in latch (A2). Apparently this part is considered optional and not included in the box. How do I get this part? Given I can't use it I've put 2 stars for the time being.Update: They manufacturer sent me the part I needed. This has been a very reliable and useful smart lock to own. Very happy with this purchase.
